The striker was heavily linked with a departure from Everton this summer.

Jamie Redknapp has told Sky Sports he does not expect Romelu Lukaku to remain at Everton for more than another year.

The striker was heavily linked with a move away from Goodison Park in this summer transfer window after he and his agent spoke openly of his desire to play Champions League football.

A move did not materialise, though, as Everton slapped a huge price tag on his head to warn away potential suitors.

It was a tactic that worked as he ended up staying at the club and has since starred at the beginning of this season.

He was once again in fine form as his side drew Crystal Palace at Goodison Park on Friday evening, scoring a superb free-kick to open the scoring in the game.

It was another show of his talent, and speaking before the game, Redknapp believes Everton could lose their star man sooner rather than later.

“He’s only 23 so we have to be careful but he can become such a formidable striker if he believes in himself, ” he told Sky Sports.

“I’m not expecting him to stay at Everton for much longer, maybe one more year. Next year there is a massive move for that kid to show exactly what he can become.”

It remains to be seen if Everton can keep hold of Lukaku beyond next summer.

In truth, it is hard to see how he will leave, with few clubs likely to be able to pay the price that Everton have put on his head.

They are also in a strong position in regards to his contract as his current deal does not expire until 2019.

Of course, another big season like last year and the so-called ‘elite’ clubs may come calling but at present it seems unlikely he will be leaving Goodison Park anytime soon.
