Tottenham Hotspur have picked up four points from their opening two Premier League matches.

Jamie Redknapp told Mauricio Pochettino on Sky Sports that Tottenham ‘struggled’ during their 2-2 draw against Manchester City on Saturday evening at the Etihad.

Pochettino’s side came from behind on two occasions to record a valuable point on the road, as they maintained their unbeaten start to the new Premier League season.

Eric Lamela equalised for Spurs when Raheem Sterling had put the home team ahead before Sergio Aguero put City back ahead. But the drama didn’t end there because Lucas Moura equalised seconds after coming on.

Speaking to Sky Sports Football (17/08/2019 at 7:45 pm), with Pochettino stood next to him, Redknapp shared his brutally honest views on Spurs’ performance against the champions of England.

“I always admire how your team play,” Redknapp told Pochettino on Sky Sports. “[But] today you didn’t look like you had that intensity. It looked like you struggled to find a way to stop Manchester City, and you found it difficult to keep the ball when you had it.

Redknapp later added: “Today, Tottenham were really poor. I thought they really struggled to keep the ball. They didn’t really look like they had an attacking threat. It wasn’t until Lucas Moura came on did I think they were going to do anything going forward. Before that, it was so easy for Manchester City. They got through at them at will, in wide areas, whether it be the wingers or the fullbacks.

“It was one of those days. But you know what in football, you’d think, we have played so much better in top-four games and lost. Today they didn’t play well and they ground out a point. I asked him [Pochettino] myself, I don’t think they were at their best. I don’t think their energy was at their best. But he’ll be delighted with a point.”

Regardless of Tottenham’s performance, at this moment in time, the supporters will be pleased with the four points they already have on the board.

Harry Kane will continue to score, Heung-Min Son will return from suspension, Christian Eriksen only started his first Premier League game of the season and the new signings are yet to settle.

When all of that clicks in then there’s no doubt that Tottenham’s performances will improve, as they push for cup success this term.
