West Ham United beat Hull City 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Jamie Redknapp has told the Daily Mail that West Ham fans made him laugh over the weekend by voting the goalpost as their man of the match against Hull City.

The Hammers went into Saturday’s clash with Hull having drawn 2-2 with Liverpool and beaten Burnley 1-0, meaning they were full of confidence when they took on the Tigers at the London Stadium.

However, they had to ride their luck to claim all three points, as whilst Mark Noble converted a penalty to give West Ham a 1-0 win, Hull hit the woodwork three times, with luck clearly not on their side in East London.

West Ham’s win took them up into 13th place in the Premier League table, but Hammers fans weren’t convinced by the performance, and they showed their funny side in the voting for the man of the match.

Hammers supporters named the post as their man of the match on Twitter having kept Hull at bay, with the woodwork taking a whopping 57% of the vote.

Pundit Jamie Redknapp has now had his say, admitting to the Daily Mail that the West Ham fans really made him laugh with their voting, adding that sometimes it’s great to be lucky rather than good.

Redknapp added that the win over Hull capped off a pivotal week, as they picked up seven points from nine games, suggesting that West Ham can now start to look up after a disappointing start to the campaign.

The former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder even compared West Ham to London rivals Crystal Palace, in the sense that they are in a false league position, and shouldn’t be struggling given the quality in their squad.

“West Ham’s fans really made me laugh this weekend by voting the post as their man of the match against Hull,” said Redknapp. “West Ham’s performances have not been great but if you can’t be good, be lucky.”

“It has been a pivotal week for West Ham. They have picked up seven points from their last three games and Slaven Bilic can finally start looking up. Like Crystal Palace, West Ham are in a false position. They have far too much quality to be struggling,” he added.
