Harry Redknapp was fired by Birmingham City at the weekend just eight games into the season.
Initially brought in as a relegation firefighter at the end of last season for three games, Redknapp was given one year deal.
After a run of poor results to start the season, Birmingham’s board panicked and fired Redknapp after a 3-1 home loss to Preston North End on Saturday.
Son Jamie Redknapp told The Mail he was taken aback to hear of his dad’s sacking.
He said: “It is never easy driving home from football on a Saturday evening and getting the phone call that your dad has been fired.
“I don’t think dad was given the time he deserved at Birmingham but unfortunately, that’s modern management.
“In hindsight, he may have wished he had left it there after saving them last season. But he loved the city and the fans and was determined to win promotion for them. He is gutted that he didn’t get a chance to see out this season.”
During the summer Harry Redknapp signed as many as 14 players, either on permanent deals or on loan.
Their record was poor, but Redknapp has the managerial experience to suggest he could have turned it around.
