Jamie Redknapp has told SkySports that he believes Arsenal could miss out on a top four place this season.
Speaking to SkySports News HQ’s Morning View on Monday (8/8), the pundit and former footballer said he believes the Gunners face a tough task ahead if they are to lift the title.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger
He said: “It’s the same question every year, do they need another striker? This might for a first time in very long time, be when they struggle to finish in top four. This could be the year.”
Arsenal have been written off numerous times over the years, and you might think by now that pundits like Redknapp would have learned their lesson not to write Arsenal off, especially with three weeks left in the transfer window.
This season the league appears very tough to call, with three of the best managers in the world taking over top clubs, Antonio Conte at Chelsea, Pep Guardiola at Manchester City and Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.
Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp
With Jurgen Klopp ready to kick on in his first season for Liverpool, they are also expected to be a danger, and Arsenal will have to be at their best over the course of the campaign in order to reach the top four.
Yet what is easily discounted by Redknapp is the fact Arsenal have a settled squad and the other managers could take their time to bed in and get the best out of their players, and Arsene Wenger has proved over the years that he is nothing if not efficient at getting a top four finish – even if it is now more than 12 years since their last league triumph.
