Jamie Redknapp has told Sky Sports that he believes Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk is now worth £225 million.
Van Dijk joined Liverpool for £75 million back in 2018, and at the time some observers questioned the fee.
However, Van Dijk has developed into one of the finest defenders in world football.
And Redknapp says that his value has tripled during his time at Anfield, as his form has been so impressive.
“Liverpool have worked the market so well, they’ve not always bought the big stars, they’ve made then stars,” he said.
“Virgil may be the opposite, they paid £75m for him but what his fee now would be, maybe three times as much as that because he’s such an incredible player.”
Liverpool, of course, will have no intentions of selling Van Dijk any time soon – but Redknapp’s comments show how highly regarded he has now become.

Van Dijk, who was described as ‘world-class’ by BBC pundit Pat Nevin, is currently a massive loss to Liverpool, as he will not play again this season.
The Reds are suffering badly with injuries, especially as Joe Gomez has now also suffered a serious knee problem.
Liverpool could now have to pick between Nathaniel Phillips, Rhys Williams and Joel Matip for the rest of the season, which makes their task of defending their Premier League crown even tougher.
