Jamie Redknapp told Sky Sports Football (13/09/20 at 6:50 pm) that he could see a sense of ‘frustration’ in Tottenham duo Harry Kane & Heung-Min Son during yesterday’s game against Everton.

Both players started Tottenham’s Premier League opener on home soil, as they fell to a 1-0 defeat to Carlo Ancelotti’s men.

It was a pretty lacklustre performance from the North London side, who lacked energy, drive and bite in the middle of the park.

Redknapp touched upon Tottenham’s performance yesterday and the pretty dour showing that may get fans worried.

“Sometimes I think it’s about having a structure about how you are going to play out from the back,” Redknapp told Sky Sports. “I watch Spurs sometimes, it looks like they want to play out from the back. They pass it to the right-back. They pass it to the keeper and then end up lumping it up the pitch. That’s not building up in stages.

“Whereas I saw Everton, they had a real understanding of how they are going to play out from the back. They may have not had enough possession. But when they had it, there was a purpose of getting up the pitch with stages.

“But with Spurs, I could see the frustration in Harry Kane. I could see the frustration in Son. I didn’t see an intensity in trying to get the ball back.”

Everton had three players making their debuts yesterday – all in the middle of the park – so it shouldn’t be an excuse from Spurs that their own debutants needed to settle in.

What would worry the Tottenham faithful and Mourinho himself is the ease in which Everton played and how James Rodriguez was allowed to work his magic in the final third.

Tottenham didn’t start the last campaign in a strong fashion and it eventually resulted in Mauricio Pochettino being given his marching orders – anything can happen here.
