Pundit Jamie Redknapp has told the Daily Mail that Tottenham Hotspur must beat Sunderland and Middlesbrough to prove that they are title challengers this season.
Tottenham endured a difficult night on Wednesday as they lost 2-1 to Monaco in the Champions League, meaning Mauricio Pochettino are already playing catch-up in Europe.

However, their Premier League campaign is really up-and-running now after last weekend’s thumping 4-0 win over Stoke City, with Pochettino’s men still unbeaten in the league this term.
With two wins and two draws, Tottenham have started strongly, and will now be looking for a third win when they take on Sunderland at White Hart Lane this weekend.
Given that Spurs have ambitions of another top four finish and potentially another push for the Premier League title, Pochettino will be hoping to keep up his side’s solid start to the campaign – and Jamie Redknapp believes Spurs now face two must-win games.

Spurs host struggling Sunderland on Sunday, and then head up to Middlesbrough a week on Saturday to take on Aitor Karanka’s side at the Riverside Stadium; a potential banana skin against arguably the strongest of the promoted sides.
Ahead of those two games, which come either side of an EFL Cup clash with League One side Gillingham, ex-Spurs midfielder and current pundit Redknapp has told the Daily Mail that he thinks Spurs must beat both Sunderland and Middlesbrough if they want to be in contention to win the Premier League title.

Redknapp highlighted that Spurs enjoyed a strong September last year and must do the same now, drawing particular attention to those games against Sunderland and Middlesbrough.
“Tottenham’s emphatic victory at Stoke means they are back in business and will be hoping to kick on in September, just like last year,” said Redknapp. “After picking up three points from a possible 12 in August 2015, Spurs won their three league matches the following month. They face Sunderland and Middlesbrough in the next few weeks — games they must win if they are to challenge for the title,” he added.
