Jamie Redknapp can’t believe Benitez let Dwight Gayle leave Newcastle

Newcastle United are still looking for a first win of the season.

Pundit Jamie Redknapp has told the Daily Mail that he thinks Newcastle United players must now be ‘running out of patience’ with manager Rafael Benitez – and he can’t believe Dwight Gayle was allowed to leave.

Newcastle lost yet again on Saturday afternoon, falling to a 1-0 home defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion as Jose Izquierdo struck a first half winner.

The Magpies sit bottom of the Premier League table with no wins and just two points, having already lost seven times this season in a dismal start to the campaign.

Manager Benitez remains popular with Newcastle fans, but there comes a point where the Spaniard must take some blame for these poor results, and not simply have everything pinned on owner Mike Ashley.

Benitez has always been pragmatic, but some fans are just beginning to get a little fed up of his style of play, and it’s always hard to justify that style when it isn’t even helping to pick up results.

Now, pundit Jamie Redknapp has ripped into Benitez in his Daily Mail column, blasting his decision to loan Dwight Gayle to West Bromwich Albion in exchange for Salomon Rondon.

Whilst Rondon has struggled for fitness and has failed to score in four Premier League games, Gayle is firing on all cylinders for West Brom, hitting eight goals in 12 Championship outings.

That decision certainly looks bad, and Redknapp continued by suggesting Newcastle players must be ‘running out of patience’ with Benitez, feeling that his negative tactics are actually holding Newcastle players back right now.

“Why on earth did Newcastle let Dwight Gayle go on loan to West Brom?” asked Redknapp. “While his replacement Salomon Rondon has not scored in the league, Gayle has eight goals in his last 10 league games.”

“Newcastle struggled in front of goal once again in their home defeat by Brighton and the players must be running out of patience with Rafa Benitez. Newcastle’s players are not as bad as results and performances suggest but they are being hamstrung by their manager’s negative tactics,” he added.
