The Liverpool striker has really struggled with injuries in recent years.

Former Liverpool star Jamie Redknapp spoke exclusively to Sky Sports about Jürgen Klopp’s side’s chances of achieving success this season, and surprisingly named Daniel Sturridge as a player who could be a real asset for the Reds this term.

The 28-year-old arrived at Liverpool from Chelsea in January 2013, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £12 million, and he has gone on to score 64 goals in all competitions for the Reds.

Injuries have severely disrupted Sturridge’s progress at Anfield, however, and he hasn’t really had a full, injury-free season since the 2013/14 campaign, when Liverpool so nearly won the Premier League title.

He was heavily backed to leave Liverpool this summer, but he eventually stayed put, and he will be hoping to help fire his team to glory this season.

Redknapp, who made 311 appearances for the Merseyside outfit, believes the 26-capped England international might just be a useful asset for Klopp this season, when speaking exclusively to Sky Sports:

“Daniel Sturridge stepped off the bench to cap that 4-0 win over West Ham and having him back in shape will be a real asset to Klopp. Along with some good summer signings, Liverpool have plenty of creative options to call on this year, too.”

Next up for Liverpool is a trip to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace tomorrow night, and Sturridge will be hoping to play a part for Klopp’s men in south London.
