The Liverpool favourite was in impressive form against Newcastle at Anfield on Saturday.

Former Liverpool star Jamie Redknapp was left incredibly impressed by the performance of Roberto Firmino on Saturday, after he came off the bench to help the Reds beat Newcastle United 3-1, writing in his Daily Mail column.

Initially rested by Jurgen Klopp because of international duty with Brazil, Firmino was brought into the game during the first half due to a Divock Origi injury.

It didn’t take him long to make an impact, almost immediately setting up Sadio Mane to score his second goal of the match and put Klopp’s side in control of the game after going behind.

The Brazilian would later brilliantly assist Mohamed Salah with a sweet flick for the team’s third goal.

It was that specific contribution that Redknapp was left so enamoured by.

As quoted by The Daily Mail, the pundit said: “I have to devote a separate section to Roberto Firmino. That flick into Mohamed Salah deserves nothing less — it was an outrageous piece of skill.

“Firmino is such an influential player and any budding strikers should study him.

“Not only does he possess the ability to produce those moments of magic, he also does the dirty work. His work rate is relentless.”

Pulling the strings

Liverpool have a number of explosive talents at their disposal. The goal race is often between Mane and Salah, as it was at the weekend, but it’s Firmino who really pulls the strings in the Reds attack.

As data from WhoScored shows, he produced an all-round performance from the bench against Newcastle. With his two shots, four key passes, an official and unofficial assist, a dribble, two aerials won and a tackle, the Magpies were no match for the Brazilian international.

With two goals and four assists at club level already this season, he’s set to go on and have another stellar campaign at home and abroad, potentially pushing Klopp’s side towards more silverware.
