Everton’s Gylfi Sigurdsson is struggling to do the business on Merseyside.

Gylfi Sigurdsson of Everton looks dejected after the Premier League match between Everton and Burnley at Goodison Park on October 1, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

Jamie Redknapp has told The Daily Mail that he believes Ross Barkley is better than Gylfi Sigurdsson and believes that the injured Everton playmaker should displace the big-money recruit when he returns.

Everton have endured a horrific start to the Premier League season as Ronald Koeman’s side sit 16th and two points above the relegation zone.

For whatever reason, quite a few of the Toffees’ pre-season recruits simply haven’t clicked but none moreso than Sigurdsson, who cost £45 million in August.

The Iceland international set up 13 goals for Swansea City in the Premier League last term but he has not created a single goalscoring chance for Everton in five games.

Barkley has been absent since August when a hamstring problem saw him ruled out for three months, but Redknapp wouldn’t hesitate to play the linked-away attacker ahead of Sigurdsson when he comes back from injury.

“They are also lacking a creative spark. I do not see players in this Everton team with pace who are prepared to take on defenders and go past people,” he told The Mail.

“They desperately miss Ross Barkley. He creates so many chances and when he is fit again I would have him in this team ahead of Sigurdsson.

“After all the promise the summer brought, it is such a shame Everton find themselves in this situation. Their fans deserve better.”
