The Nottingham Forest winger has been linked with Leeds and his lack of game time belies what are actually very impressive stats.
According to a recent printed copy of the Sun, Leeds United are interested in Nottingham Forest winger Jamie Paterson.
Forest would be open to a sale, according to the report, if there was the possibility of a swap deal. And, interestingly, Paterson actually trumps another team-mate recently linked with Leeds: Michail Antonio.
Indeed, Antonio is seen as an ambitious target for the Whites, report the Yorkshire Evening Post, but Paterson’s lack of game time at the City Ground belies some impressive statistics.
| Minutes Per… | Assist | Chance Created | Accurate Cross | Dribble | Final-Third Pass | Minutes Played |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Michail Antonio | 328.25 | 62.52 | 101 | 37.88 | 12.27 | 3,939 |
| Jamie Paterson | 217.67 | 54.42 | 72.56 | 40.81 | 7.34 | 653 |
As Opta stats show, the 23-year-old actually averages less minutes per assist, chance created, accurate cross and final-third pass, also coming close in terms of dribbles.
That is not to say the Nottingham Forest winger is a better player than Antonio – but it suggests plenty of potential. And it could be great news for Leeds, considering how difficult it would be to attempt to sign Antonio. His team-mate, with his lack of minutes, could be a realistic signing.
Paterson struggled for game time in the Championship last season and, despite saying he felt more at home under Dougie Freedman, competition for places is still tough at the City Ground. His pace and creativity, though, could make him a brilliant asset at Leeds, who need a wide man.
So, if the Sun’s link is only a tenuous one, it shouldn’t be. Uwe Rosler could do far worse than make a move for Paterson, whose statistics are far superior to the top respective performers in the United squad, as shown below…
| Minutes Per… | Assist | Chance Created | Accurate Cross | Dribble | Final-Third Pass | Minutes Played |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sam Byram | 3,266 | 83.74 | 204.13 | 163.3 | 7.65 | 3,266 |
| Lewis Cook | 2,952 | 79.78 | 328 | 65.6 | 11.9 | 2,952 |
| Charlie Taylor | 1,948 | 129.87 | 81.17 | 84.7 | 14.22 | 1,948 |
| Billy Sharp | 1,629 | 101.81 | 325.8 | 325.8 | 12.83 | 1,629 |
| Alex Mowatt | 1,527 | 62.33 | 105.31 | 179.65 | 8.58 | 3,054 |
| Mirco Antenucci | 1,152 | 104.73 | 329.14 | 128 | 11.58 | 2,304 |
