Jamie O’Hara has responded on Twitter to reports that Tottenham Hotspur are willing to cash in on Steven Bergwijn. The Netherlands attacker has struggled at Spurs of late, and is the subject of interest from Ajax.

Bergwijn, 24, has managed just three substitute appearances in the Premier League since the arrival of new Spurs gaffer Antonio Conte. In his 64 appearances for Tottenham, Bergwijn has found the back of net five times.

It is a stark contrast to the hype surrounding Bergwijn, after his debut goal against Manchester City – following his £27million. Sky Sports report that Tottenham are willing to listen to offers for the Netherlands international.

The report also claims that Ajax have made an offer worth £15million to sign the winger – but that has been rejected, with talks ongoing. Ex-Spurs midfielder discussed Bergwijn on Twitter, stating he is “unhappy”.

O’Hara on Bergwijn: Has Tottenham star been given a chance?

Bergwijn has been blighted by little niggles and muscle issues since joining Tottenham in January 2020. Of his 64 outings, only 37 have come from the start. Perhaps, Bergwijn has not been given a proper go.

But those in charge can hardly be blamed. Lucas Moura has been much the better player over the last 12 months, while Son Heung-min is hardly going to be dropped. While he deserves a chance, it is not going to be forthcoming.

Ajax are not the only club interested in signing Bergwijn, with 90Min reporting that Newcastle have been alerted to his availability on loan. A temporary spell on loan at a Premier League club might be ideal.
