Jamie O’Hara wonders whether forgotten man Danny Rose could be handed a fresh start at Tottenham Hotspur following the sacking of Jose Mourinho, speaking to talkSPORT (20 April, 2.40pm).
They’ll never admit it, of course, but we wouldn’t be surprised if there were a few corks popping at the Tottenham training ground on Monday morning.
The departure of Jose Mourinho won’t cure all the club’s ills but there’s a beam of light breaking through the dark clouds hanging over their space-age stadium.
Mourinho’s sudden, yet not exactly surprising, farewell feels like a weight lifted. And a number of Spurs players could be forgiven for wondering whether their Tottenham careers have just been saved.
Dele Alli and Harry Winks could be parachuted straight back into contention by interim manager Ryan Mason – a Mauricio Pochettino disciple if there ever was one.
Rose, meanwhile, hasn’t made a first-team appearance all season. His most recent outing in Tottenham colours came during a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool in January 2020.
And, when asked whether Mourinho’s exit could see a number of seldom-seen players return to the fold, O’Hara made his feelings clear.
“I think that’s what’s going to happen. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Danny Rose back involved. It wouldn’t surprise me if Bale and Dele Alli start, with a new, attacking style of football,” the former Spurs ace says.
“I know Ryan played that sort of way with Pochettino. I played with him myself and he was that kind of dynamic central midfielder.
“But its alright setting up a team and saying ‘we’re going to play this way’. To be a top-class manager at Spurs, which is a huge job, is more than just putting a team out.”
This weekend’s Carabao Cup final meeting with Manchester City may come too soon for the likes of Rose, however.
You’d assume the England international will lack match sharpness after so long on the sidelines.
