Jamie O’Hara was raging on Twitter by asking ‘are Spurs winding me up’ after Tottenham were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Colchester United on Tuesday night.

Mauricio Pochettino did make a number of changes to his starting XI against the League Two side, but he still fielded a pretty strong squad, with the likes of Dele Alli, Lucas Moura, Victor Wanyama and Ben Davies all starting.

Not forgetting that Pochettino also brought Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela and Heung-Min Son on in the second half, but the game after 90 minutes still ended finishing goalless.

In the end, it was Colchester who prevailed via the penalty spot, with Eriksen and Moura missing their kicks, which resulted in Pochettino suffering one of his most humiliating defeats as Spurs manager.

Nonetheless, former Tottenham midfielder O’Hara wasn’t too pleased with that result, as he sent this message from his personal Twitter account straight after the game.

It has been a nightmare start to the season for Spurs, who have started their Premier League campaign in an indifferent manner, drew their first Champions League group game encounter despite leading 2-0, and now suffered a defeat against a fourth-tier side.

Off-field problems since pre-season have no doubt contributed to the mess Spurs currently find themselves in, with the future of a number of players still up in the air.

It does seem as though Tottenham are at a crossroads and it wouldn’t be a surprise if a number of senior players and Pochettino himself are not at the club next season.
