Tottenham Hotspur haven’t bought a player in 18 months.
Jamie O’Hara has told talkSPORT that he doesn’t believe Tottenham Hotspur have the money to enjoy a summer spending spree over the coming months.
Saturday’s Champions League final defeat by Liverpool in Madrid has whet the appetite for Tottenham fans to see big-money transfers.
There have been no shortage of rumours, with Di Marzio claiming this past weekend that Spurs have bid £62 million for Real Betis ace Giovani Lo Celso, while £87 million-rated Tanguy Ndombele is heavily linked.
The North Londoners, who moved into their £1 billion stadium in April, haven’t signed any player since Lucas Moura in January of 2018.
And O’Hara, who spent eight years n Spurs’ books until 2011, does not believe that chairman Daniel Levy has the funds to financially back manager Mauricio Pochettino in the market.
“Daniel Levy’s got to look at it and think, ‘I’ve got to back this manager’. I don’t think there is [a warchest],” the 32-year-old told talkSPORT on Monday, June 3.
“With the money they spent on the stadium, and the way they’ve not been delving into the transfer window, I don’t think the money’s there yet. That stadium cost them an awful lot of money.”
If O’Hara is anywhere near correct, Levy would want to find the money from somewhere because keeping Pochettino in North London could be difficult otherwise.
Following his success at Tottenham, the Argentine is one of football’s most sought-after coaches and if his chairman can’t back him this summer, he might well call time on his five-year stay with the Lilywhites.
