Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen could stay at the club beyond next season following reports about his future.

Jamie O’Hara has calmed that Tottenham will show that they ‘mean business’ if they secure the future of playmaker Christian Eriksen this summer.

The Daily Mail have claimed that Spurs have offered Eriksen a new contract worth £200,000-a-week, with his current deal due to expire next summer.

Eriksen’s future has been up in the air after he suggested that he was looking for a new challenge following Spurs’ Champions League final defeat to Liverpool in June.

Speaking to the Transfer Tavern on TalkSport (20/07/2019 at 5:20 pm), former Spurs midfielder O’Hara shared his thoughts on the reported contract offer for Eriksen.

“As a fan, it’s a frustrating one because I want him to sign a new deal, I really do,” O’Hara told TalkSport. “He’s been umming and ahhing about it. There was a lot of talk at the end of the season after the Champions League final about him going, but nothing has materialised yet.

“I think this is one Tottenham need to get over the line before the season starts because if they can get Christian to sign a new deal that means then everyone knows that Tottenham means business. Sometimes the players there are the most important players at the club and Christian Eriksen for me is one of them players.

On Spurs fans criticising him towards the back end of last season: “This is the problem with fans. They can be quite fickle. They don’t remember what a player does for a football club. He scored some important goals last season when Tottenham were struggling and limping.”

Tottenham are finally making noises in the transfer market following the capture of Lyon powerhouse Tanguy Ndombele earlier on this summer.

If Spurs can also secure the future of Eriksen then it’ll be a double boost for the club because they will not want him to run down his contract.

If he doesn’t agree to a new deal, and he’s still at the club in August, then he could seemingly sign a pre-contract agreement with another European club. That’s something Spurs will not want to do because they’ll lose out on some serious money.
