Jamie O’Hara has backed the idea of Leicester City boss, Brendan Rodgers, taking the manager’s gig at Tottenham Hotspur because the former Liverpool and Celtic coach is ‘proven’.
The name of Brendan Rodgers was put forward to the former Spurs midfielder and he spoke about how his teams play ‘great football’.
From helping Swansea City earn promotion to the Premier League to his utter domination at Celtic, the only blip in the Northern Irishman’s career was his time at Liverpool.
At the time, the Reds came very, very close to becoming champions of England, with a devastating forward line that included Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.
But that slip-up during the final weeks of the season saw the end of the road for Rodgers on Merseyside, who was sacked the following campaign, and replaced by Jurgen Klopp, and the rest is history.
Rodgers is now in the Leicester City dugout, with some suggestions that he is ‘under pressure’ at the relegation-threatened side.
Despite that, O’Hara would jump on board with his appointment, even though he wants Mauricio Pochettino or Julian Nagelsmann first, as he told talkSPORT.
“I wouldn’t be disappointed in Brendan Rodgers,” said O’Hara. “I think he’s a fantastic manager. He is proven at the top.
“His sides can play great football. I think it has gone a little bit down for him at Leicester City. But they have had injuries and not spending any money.
“I wouldn’t say no to Brendan Rodgers. I just don’t know if that’s going to be the one that will get all the Spurs fans back on side. If you bring in Pochettino, then you bring the fans back on side. If it’s Nagelsmaan, then everyone is jumping for joy.”
MIXED REACTION FROM FANS
Daniel Levy is already under fire from Tottenham fans and it will only pile more pressure on the Spurs chairman if he were to appoint Rodgers – Tim Sherwood recently came out and stated that there is ‘no philosophy’ at the London club.
Yes, he has won the FA Cup during his time at the King Power Stadium, more than what the Spurs faithful can dream of in recent times.
But management is all about timing. If Rodgers had just won the FA Cup last season, then he would be right at the top of the list, but because his team are now struggling, then the mood and thinking around him is a lot different.
