Tottenham will welcome Arsenal to their side of north London on Sunday for a mouthwatering showdown.

Ange Postecoglou’s side have had a mixed start to the new Premier League season. Tottenham were beaten at Newcastle before the international break.

Given that Arsenal finished 23 points ahead of their neighbours last season and also recorded three points at their patch, then you would have been backing them to repeat that at the weekend.

But Mikel Arteta has been dealt blow after blow in these past few weeks, which makes things a little more interesting and possibly puts the ball in Tottenham‘s court.

Declan Rice is suspended after his red card against Brighton, with everyone associated with the club fuming at the call to award the England midfielder a second yellow card.

But to make matters worse, Martin Odegaard got injured on Norway duty and the £30 million man is set to miss the Spurs trip, which further weakens Arsenal’s midfield.

Jamie O’Hara questioned if Arteta and his players would be able to cope without their captain given how influential he is for them on the ball.

But the former Tottenham player couldn’t help but dig at Arsenal for ‘moaning’ about the injury to Odegaard, the fixture list and referees, as he told talkSPORT (10/09/24 at 10:10 pm).

Martin Odegaard to miss north London derby

“Can Arsenal cope without their captain Martin Odegaard for the north London derby this week,” asked O’Hara.

“Or, are they just going to keep moaning that they have injuries, or the fixtures or the refs. All of that.”

Extra pressure on Tottenham

From an attacking perspective, Ange Postecoglou’s all-action Tottenham side create enough chances inside 90 minutes to win two or three games.

But one of their biggest problems, and they have already showcased it this season, is their inability to finish chances and just get the basics right in the final third.

Either way, given how weak Arsenal will be in the middle of the park, this puts extra pressure on Spurs to win the game, especially given their record in this fixture in recent times.

But their biggest problem might not even be their attack. The defence gets opened up way too many times and if it shows any signs of weakness against Arsenal, then they will get punished.
