Jamie O’Hara critical of Fernando Llorente’s reported Tottenham return

Following the expiry of his contract, Fernando Llorente could reportedly make a return to Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the new Premier League season.

TalkSport pundit Jamie O’Hara has slammed Tottenham for seemingly deciding to bring back Fernando Llorente to the club.

The London Evening Standard have claimed that striker Llorente has been offered a new contract by Spurs, with his recent one expiring at the end of last season.

For the majority of time Llorente has been at Tottenham, he has played second fiddle to main man Harry Kane and has only stepped into his shoes when he has been injured.

Speaking to the Transfer Tavern on TalkSport (20/07/2019 at 5:25 pm), O’Hara thinks his former club is making a mistake by re-signing Llorente.

“It’s a tough one because the hardest thing in football is to get top strikers, especially for cheap,” O’Hara told TalkSport. “Probably Spurs are thinking we’ll get one in or something will come up and they have probably found it difficult, so they are perhaps looking at it that Llorente did score important goals for them last season.

“[But] I don’t think it’s a forward-thinking move for a football club. Llorente will be happy with the deal because he’s 34 and they have probably offered him £60k-a-week. He’ll probably look at it and think ‘It’s another season playing at the top level’.

“But for Spurs it’s not a forward-thinking move. They recently reached the Champions League final. They have talked about that they really want to push on now. I don’t think Llorente is that.”

It has to be mentioned that Llorente did end the season in a strong fashion because whilst Kane was on the sidelines, he played a pivotal part in the club reaching the Champions League final.

His performance at Manchester City then that standout display on a memorable night in Ajax were some of his best moments.

But when the season ended, Spurs seemingly opted to part ways with the player, but with the new season weeks away, he could be making a return.
