Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen are out of contract at Tottenham Hotspur next summer.

Jamie O’Hara suggested on talkSPORT (9:24am, September 5, 2019) that he is surprised that Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has allowed three key players’ contracts to run down to less than a year.

The former Tottenham midfielder has said that on previous occasions, Levy would have extended such players’ contracts or handed them new deals.

According to Football.London, defenders Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen and attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen are out of contract in the summer of 2020.

O’Hara said on talkSPORT (9:24am, September 5, 2019): “I am really surprised that Levy has allowed these players to get into the last year.

“It’s something he would never normally do. He would always give them new contracts, he would always extend contracts, and to let big players like that go down into their last year, I am really surprised with.”

New contracts needed?

Eriksen is one of the best and most creative midfielders in Europe, while Alderweireld and Vertonghen are two of the best central defenders in the Premier League.

Tottenham run the risk of losing three of their best players for free next summer, and the North London outfit need to do something about it this season.

Selling any of Eriksen, Alderweireld and Vertonghen in the January transfer window is pretty much out of the question, and the North London outfit have to convince them to sign new deals so that if they do decide to sell them next summer, then they get some decent transfer fees.
