Jamie O’Hara believes Tottenham Hotspur have to push for a £60 million star to replace forward Richarlison this summer.
Tottenham Hotspur are understood to be keen on a new striker this summer with Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez understood to be high on the club’s list of targets.
The Lilywhites failed to replace the departing Harry Kane last summer with the English forward moving to Bayern Munich and having an oustanding individual season for the Bavarian side.
As for Tottenham, Postecoglou put his trust in Heung Min-Son and Brazilian forward Richarlison but the North London club missed out Champions League football, despite playing some brilliant football.
Tottenham told to sign Ivan Toney this summer
A new striker will be of interest to the club this summer and Ivan Toney has been encouraged to move to the Lilywhites.
Speaking on talkSPORT (9:51AM) , former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara believes Toney would be perfect for the Lilywhites. O’Hara joins Agbonlahor who claimed that Spurs had to move for the ‘proper’ forward.
“For me Ivan Toney is a great striker to have in your squad, he’s cool and calm with penalties too,” O’Hara said.
“I’m surprised there has not been interest in him this summer. I think he would work really well at Spurs. I do, I think he’d be great for us.
“I don’t think Richarlison is good enough with the ball at his feet. He can score goals but what he lacks in and around the box, the little one-twos, he lacks but Toney could be perfect for that role.”
Last season, Toney missed the majority of the campaign due to his suspension for an alleged breach of betting rule meant the forward featured in just 17 Premier League games, netting four times.
Toney made an impact for England at the 2024 European Championships but his future at Brentford is far from certain.
Tottenham, Arsenal and Newcastle among sides keen on Toney
HITC has previously reported that Atletico Madrid had entered the race for Toney, who has one year left on his contract at Brentford.
As well as interest from the Spanish giants, Toney has been looked at closely by the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Manchester United, but as yet, nobody has been willing to step up.
However, none of these sides have been willing to match the £60 million asking price set by Brentford for the signing of the English forward.
As of yet, there has been little willingness from those at Brentford to lower his price to below the £50 million barrier.
