Sky Sports pundit Jamie O’Hara has backed Paulo Gazzaniga to thrive in Tottenham’s starting XI following the long-term injury to Hugo Lloris.

Goalkeeper Lloris is set to miss the rest of 2019 after he dislocated his elbow during Tottenham’s 3-0 defeat to Brighton over the weekend, as reported by BBC Sport.

It was a pretty bad moment for Lloris, who failed to hold onto Pascal Gross’ cross, which led to Neal Maupay opening the scoring, as the Frenchman ended up falling backwards and damaging his elbow.

Speaking on The Debate on Sky Sports PL (07/10/2019 at 10:15 pm), O’Hara stated that he is ‘not worried’ about the goalkeeping position, with Gazzaniga seemingly set to come in and replace Lloris.

“I like Gazzaniga,” O’Hara told Sky Sports. “Look Lloris he is a fantastic servant for the football club and he has been the captain.

“But for me, Gazzaniga can step into that spot. He’s good on the ball. Lloris does make mistakes, so I am not worried about the goalkeeping position.”

Whilst Lloris will be devastated with his injury, from Tottenham’s perspective, him missing from the starting XI could be a blessing in disguise.

Lloris’ career has always been ridden with errors and during these past two weeks, he has made mistakes against Southampton and recently Brighton.

Not only that, his absence will now allow Gazzaniga to stake his claim in the starting XI, and if he can produce the goods then Lloris might then struggle to make a return to the starting XI – Gazzaniga has only started one Premier League game this term.
