Rangers new boy Jamie Murphy has told The Scottish Sun that he believes he is a Gers player for the long term despite only signing on loan.

The Gers had already landed Declan John permanently from Cardiff City and Sean Goss on loan from Queens Park Rangers, before making it three January deals over the weekend.

Rangers swooped to land Brighton and Hove Albion winger Jamie Murphy on loan until the end of the season, with a guaranteed permanent deal available in the summer.

Rangers had expected to purchase Murphy, but Brighton changed the deal at the last minute, meaning the Gers will have to wait until the summer to sign him permanently.

Murphy, 28, had been a key player for Brighton following a 2015 move from Sheffield United, but he started just one Premier League game this season as he slipped down the pecking order.

Five years since leaving Motherwell for Sheffield United, Murphy is back in Scottish football – and a move to Ibrox has enabled him to live out a boyhood dream.

Murphy grew up supporting Rangers, and has told The Scottish Sun that he felt there was only one place he wanted to go when he first heard about Rangers’ interest.

Murphy added that, whilst he is only on loan at Ibrox, he feels like a Rangers player for the long term, and believes a permanent deal will go through without a hitch.

“It is a guaranteed permanent transfer and I am a Rangers player as far as I am concerned,” said Murphy. “I am just glad to have joined the club. It’s what I wanted from as soon as I knew the club wanted me to join. It was a no-brainer. It is a club me and my family have supported all our lives.”

“When I heard they were interested and I wasn’t playing at Brighton, there was only one place I wanted to go. My family are all delighted. My wife and kids can get back up the road and my dad can get to my games more easily now. He used to come down to every game, even at Brighton, even though it was difficult for him. I know he is delighted,” he added.
