Rangers manager Gerrard officially starts work at Ibrox on Friday.

Gerrard, 37, is set to delve into the world of football management for the first time by taking over at Ibrox after signing a four-year deal to replace Graeme Murty who was sacked last month.
He has since given director of football Mark Allen his blessing for the Gers’ three summer signings, landing Scott Arfield and Allan McGregor on free transfers and Scotland international Murphy on a permanent basis.

Murphy, 28, is currently with the Scotland national side’s on tour of Peru and Mexico, and he told The National that Gerrard had spoken to him on the phone to wish him luck during those matches.
“I’m looking forward to it,” Murphy said. “I spoke to the manager and he just wished me luck over here. That’s all I’m focusing on; coming away here, being in the squad and doing well.
“I spoke to him on the phone, just briefly. I was away on holiday last week and he was just basically saying good luck. It wasn’t unexpected, but any time a new manager speaks to you on the phone it’s welcome.”
“I’m excited. It’s obviously a fresh start for next season. The season tickets sales are up and that kind of thing and it’s great because you want the supporters behind you.”

Former Brighton winger Murphy earned only his second Scotland cap in the early hours of Wednesday morning, as he started against Peru in a disappointing 2-0 loss to the World Cup-bound South Americans.
Murphy was in excellent form for the Light Blues last season after joining the club on loan from Brighton before the deal was made permanent, scoring five goals and laying on 10 assists in just 19 games.
He could be in action once again on Sunday, as Scotland face Mexico in what would be Murphy’s third cap if he is given a run out by former Gers boss Alex McLeish.
