Jamie Lindsay explains why he decided to leave Celtic

Jamie Lindsay left Celtic this summer having come through the academy ranks at Parkhead.

In comments reported by The Scottish Sun, Jamie Lindsay has suggested that he decided to leave Celtic this summer as he decided that he could no longer kid himself about making the grade at Parkhead.

The 22-year-old had been on Celtic’s books for around 12 years, coming through the academy ranks. However, despite making nearly 100 career appearances in all competitions, none have come for the Hoops, with loan spells with Dumbarton, Morton and Ross County giving the midfielder the opportunity to impress.

And his time as a Celtic player came to an end this summer, with Lindsay joining Ross County on a permanent basis. And after completing the move, the youngster suggested that it felt like the right time to call time on his Bhoys career.

“There comes a time in your life where I’ve been at Celtic since I was ten-years-old and I’ve not really had that chance,” he said, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

“I thought, ‘what’s the point in me sitting about for another year when I can go and play and better my career myself?’

“A lot of people would go back to Celtic and kid on they were a Celtic player. But that doesn’t do anything for you in the long run.”

Unfortunately for Lindsay, he was competing for a place in the team where Celtic are arguably at their strongest. Brendan Rodgers’ midfield has played a vital role in their success over the last two years, and Lindsay’s task, had he stayed, was highlighted by the players that Rodgers already cannot hand regular game-time to.

He has a long way to go with Ross County now gearing up for a campaign in the second tier following their relegation, but he will be hoping to prove to Celtic in the future that he did deserve his chance in the Hoops’ first-team.
