It’s as you were in the Premier League title race after Liverpool held Manchester City to a 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium this evening.
This was definitely the biggest game of the season thus far – and it was arguably the most exciting.
Sadio Mane rescued a point for Liverpool early in the second half after Manchester City went into the break with a 2-1 lead, after goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus.
Diogo Jota had equalised for Jurgen Klopp’s outfit in between both of the hosts’ goals.
Here’s Jamie Carragher’s instant reaction to the result:
He said on Sky: “I think Jurgen Klopp will be satisfied. Before the game, obviously he’d have wanted three points but the second half showed how they got back into the game having been 2-1 down. They’ll be delighted with a point as Liverpool weren’t at the races in the first half. They deserve credit for how they responded.”
Carragher is right
Liverpool boss Klopp would’ve snatched your hand off at half time had you offered him a point.
During the first 45 minutes, the Reds were second best for a lot of it and honestly, the Citizens could – and probably should – have had more than a one-goal lead going into the break.
However, Liverpool showed why they won the Premier League in 2020 with an instant response through Mane after the interval.
Klopp’s troops remain one point behind Manchester City with seven games to go.
The title decider ultimately didn’t decide anything, as it turns out.
Liverpool’s next seven league outings are Manchester United [H], Everton [H], Newcastle [A], Tottenham [H], Aston Villa [A], Southampton [A] and Wolves [H].
As for City, their last seven games: Brighton [H], Watford [H], Leeds [A], Newcastle [H], West Ham [A], Wolves [H], Aston Villa [H].
