Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is the frontrunner for the Golden Boot award. Kane has scored 26 goals in the Premier League this season, two more than Everton striker Romelu Lukaku and three more than Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez.
Four of Kane’s goals came on Thursday evening during Tottenham’s 6-1 victory over Leicester City. The 23-year-old England international will be aiming to add to his tally on Sunday afternoon when Spurs face Hull City away from home.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has made a joke about Kane. The former England international defender has claimed that although the Tottenham star speaks about playing for the team, he cares deeply about the Golden Boot.
“This trophy matters enormously to strikers,” Carragher wrote in The Daily Mail. “If you look back through the record books, you will see many forwards who won this prize on a number of occasions, but never had the same success in terms of winning cups for their team.
“I honestly don’t think they would swap them. Luis Suarez provided a good example in Barcelona last year. He was in a hot spell but was more intent on speaking to me about his team-mates.
“I then asked him how many goals he’d scored that season and he answered in a flash before I’d finished my question.
“That’s why when I hear strikers say it’s about the team, as Kane did at Leicester, I immediately shout ‘liar’!”
Hull have been relegated from the Premier League and have one of the worst teams in the division, meaning that Kane should be confident of scoring at least once.
The England international striker is likely to start the game, and given his current form and confidence, one should not be surprised if he scores a hat-trick against the Tigers.
