Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has been the subject of much discussion in recent days.

The 22-year-old is not having the best of seasons and was left out of England’s recent games.

There have been suggestions that England head coach Gareth Southgate may not pick Alexander-Arnold in the squad for the European Championship in the summer of 2021.

Kieran Trippier, Kyle Walker and Reece James are wonderful right-backs, and it is clear that Alexander-Arnold needs to step up.

Former Manchester United defender Neville rates Alexander-Arnold highly, and while picking his England squad on Monday Night Football, he selected the youngster.

However, Neville did explain why he thinks Southgate left Alexander-Arnold out of the team.

The right-back was in action for Liverpool against Aston Villa today, and the 22-year-old scored the winner in injury time.

The youngster curled home from the edge of the box, as the Reds completed a 2-1 comeback win.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher was on co-commentary duty for the match on Sky Sports, and after goal went in, he took a dig at fellow Sky Sports pundit Neville.

Carragher said on Sky Sports Football (4:52pm, April 10, 2021): “Are you watching Gary Neville?”
