Jamie Carragher has suggested to Sky Sports that he would be worried if Mikel Arteta decides to keep David Luiz at Arsenal.
Luiz put in an awful performance for Arsenal on their return to Premier League action, with the Brazilian at fault for two goals which his side conceded in a 3-0 defeat to Manchester City.
Carragher was scathing with his criticism of Luiz after the match, and suggested that he simply isn’t good enough for the Gunners any more.
“People keep talking about experience, but sometimes that can be one of the most over-rated qualities. It’s not about how experienced you are, it’s how good you are,” Carragher said.
“For Arsenal they’ve got a young French lad coming in [William Saliba], they’ve bought Mari, they need to buy another one, they’ve got Sokratis, Mustafi, they’re not good enough. That’s the problem, you look at a David Luiz, you think I’ll get the best out of him, you won’t.
“The people at the top, if they’ve decided David Luiz is not getting another year, that’s right.
“If Mikel Arteta thinks he should, I think that’s wrong. I’d be really worried if I was an Arsenal fan and Arteta thought he could get another year out of Luiz.”
Arteta came out on record earlier in the week and said that he wanted to keep Luiz at Arsenal.

“I’m really happy with David,” Arteta said to Football London. “I want to keep him here with us.”
Straight after the game Arteta suggested that his opinion had not changed, despite Luiz’s awful display.
However, in his latest press conference, Arteta did claim that Luiz’s departure is now a possibility, due to financial reasons.
Luiz has just months remaining on his current Arsenal deal, and the club have been unable to agree new terms with him yet.
