Jamie Carragher has predicted that Aston Villa’s Steven Gerrard will not only become Liverpool manager one day, but also manage England too.

Gerrard took his first steps into management in 2018, joining Rangers after working as a youth coach at Liverpool.

Gerrard had his ups and downs at Ibrox but brought the Scottish Premiership title to Rangers last season, ending Celtic’s dominance.

Another title will have been in his sights this season, but Gerrard chose to leave Rangers in November, becoming the new Aston Villa boss.

Gerrard replaced Dean Smith at Villa Park and has so far endured something of a mixed start to life as a Premier League boss.

In 15 games as Villa boss, Gerrard has picked up six wins, two draws and seven defeats.

Headline captures of Philippe Coutinho and Lucas Digne in January summed up the pulling power Gerrard can provide.

The hope is that Gerrard can drag Villa into a regular top 10 position and then pushing for Europe in the years to come.

Ultimately, Gerrard needs that to happen in order to get where he wants to go.

The natural goal for Gerrard will be to manage Liverpool, returning to his boyhood club to lead their next era after Jurgen Klopp’s reign.

Pundit and former Liverpool teammate Jamie Carragher has now told Optus Sport that he has no doubt that Gerrard will become Liverpool boss one day.

Intriguingly though, Carragher also believes that Gerrard will manage England, suggesting his aura alongside his coaching ability will take him far.

“I think he’ll do a really good job because he’s been a great player and he’s got a great aura about him, but you still then need to do the job,” said Carragher. “I think he’s got the ability to do the job, certainly in his early days in a managerial sense, he has done that when you look at the job he did at Rangers, I think the players he’s attracted already to Aston Villa bodes well for the future and I think he’ll wanna manage one of the elite clubs and the obvious one is Liverpool. I see him one day managing his country and Liverpool, I have no doubt about that,” he added.

Villa will probably know that, if Gerrard fares well, he will be headhunted for big jobs like Liverpool and England.

Few have really talked about Gerrard for England, but Carragher seems confident that it will happen somewhere down the line.
