Jamie Carragher has suggested on Monday Night Football that Tottenham Hotspur forward Heung-Min Son has enjoyed a better season than Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
Carragher named his Premier League Team of the Season last night and included the Tottenham man ahead of Salah.
That may have come as a shock to some Liverpool fans.
But Carragher justified his claims by pointing towards Son’s volume of goals and assists for Tottenham.
“I went for Son, I was thinking about maybe Mo Salah as top goalscorer. But I just think Son – goals and assists – he has more than Salah combined and I think Salah takes penalties, whereas Kane is the penalty taker,” Carragher said.
“That is the reason I went for Son. And to be fair to Son and Harry Kane they have been playing in a team which has been quite defensively, if I’m being totally honest.”
Son has enjoyed his most productive season to date at Tottenham, with 22 goals and 17 assists across all competitions.
He was one of the few Spurs players who Jose Mourinho consistently seemed to get the best out of, alongside Harry Kane.
Salah, meanwhile, also comes out of the campaign with great credit.
Liverpool may not have been at their best this term, but Salah has continued to score regularly – and the £34 million Egyptian’s (BBC Sport) performances deserve great credit.
