Speaking on Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher has been discussing Mohamed Salah and the reasons why he should stay at Liverpool.
The Egyptian is entering the final year of his Liverpool contract, and with no headway made in terms of negotiations regarding a new deal, the winger could be on his way out of the club within the next 12 months.
Carragher, like many Liverpool fans, wants Salah to stay, and he says that staying at Anfield would also be the best move for the attacker’s career, pointing at Emre Can, Georginio Wijnaldum and Philippe Coutinho as examples of players who have left Liverpool only to falter.
What’s been said?
Carragher spoke about Salah, Can, Wijnaldum and Coutinho.
“I’m desperate for Mo Salah to sign and I think he should sign. What I said before about Jurgen Klopp and what he’s done with this club. He’s turned good players into great players, Mo Salah was one of those, he was a very good player, now he’s a superstar. Gini Wijnaldum was one of them, Coutinho was one of them, there was another in Emre Can who wasn’t quite at that level, but these are three players who maybe thought they deserved more from Liverpool in terms of wages, they moved, and it’s never been the same for them,” Carragher said.

Grass isn’t always greener
Carragher is absolutely right, the grass isn’t always greener in football, and Salah would do well to remember where he came from.
Before joining Liverpool, he’d never hit more than 15 league goals in a single season, now anything below 20 is a disappointment.
Liverpool have helped him become a superstar, and there are no guarantees that he would keep this form up under a manager not named Jurgen Klopp – just look at his international record as an example.
Salah has scored just six goals in his last 21 appearances for Egypt spanning back to 2019, and while that isn’t an exact science, it just goes to show that his performances may well fall off if he isn’t playing under Klopp.
Leaving Liverpool would be a risk for Salah, but he may believe it’s one worth taking.
