Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers will face Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic at Celtic Park in the Old Firm derby on Sunday.
Rangers manager Steven Gerrard
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard will come up against his former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers this afternoon, when the Ibrox club take on Celtic away from home at Celtic Park in the Scottish Premiership.
Gerrard, who was appointed as the Rangers manager in the summer, was at Liverpool from 1989 until 2015, while Rodgers was in charge of the Reds from the summer of 2012 until October 2015.
Rangers will head into the Old Firm derby against Celtic with confidence, and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has outlined how the Gers footballing style is similar to that of Rodgers’s philosophy.
Carragher, who played with Gerrard for Liverpool and England and worked under Rodgers at the Reds, has also revealed what he told the 38-year-old about taking the Rangers managerial job.
“In my eyes, Brendan is the best British coach working today,” Carragher wrote in The Telegraph. “He is the man Stevie must eclipse to fulfil managerial ambitions and many of his methods will be positively influencing training sessions at Rangers.
“You can see some of Rodgers’ ideas in the Rangers team. They prefer 4-3-3 and press high.”
The former Liverpool defender added: “When Stevie told me about the offer from Rangers I said, ‘take it’. There is no ideal place to accept your first job.”

Entertaining game
Rangers are playing good football under Gerrard, while Celtic are the best team in the Scottish Premiership and have been so for quite a number of years.
Sunday’s Old Firm derby promises to be hugely entertaining, and there could be a few goals at Celtic Park.
