Speaking on The Overlap, Jamie Carragher has been speaking about Harry Kane amid his poor run of form for Tottenham.
Kane has gotten off to what can only be described as a lacklustre start to this season. He’s yet to score a Premier League goal and he seriously looks off the boil.
Carragher believes that Kane has fundamentally changed as a player in recent years, claiming that he’s no longer a centre-forward, claiming that he’ll never be the player he was during his early career from now on.

Carragher gave his view on Kane.
“We watch him a lot, we analyse the stats, and he’s a completely different player to what he was under Pochettino. I’m watching a different Harry Kane, what he does in terms of dropping off and what he did last season was amazing, but I don’t think he’ll ever be the centre-forward anymore, running in behind and pressing. I’ve not seen this for two of three years now, I didn’t see it in the summer with England. He conserves his energy a lot like Ronaldo and Messi now,” Carragher said.
Different player
There’s no doubting that Kane is now a different player to the one we saw burst onto the scene back in 2014/15.
The old-school number nine has become the archetypal modern forward. He’s as much a playmaker as he is a goalscorer these days, and we may never see him play in his old role ever again.
Even in a Nuno Espirito Santo team where a striker should spearhead the attack, Kane is dropping deep and that doesn’t look like changing anytime soon.
