Jamie Carragher said on Sky Sports Football (4:45pm, April 10, 2021) that Sadio Mane looked very desperate during Liverpool’s win against Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon.

Mane did not start for Liverpool in their Premier League game against Villa at Anfield, but the Senegal international forward came on as a substitute for Roberto Firmino in the 75th minute, as the Reds won 2-1.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher was on co-commentary duty for the match on Sky Sports, and he said that the 29-year-old forward was trying a bit too hard to impress manager Jurgen Klopp.

Carragher said about Mane in the 84th minute of the match on Sky Sports Football (4:45pm, April 10, 2021): “We have seen a lot from Mane of late. Maybe trying to do too much, running at people, desperate to make an impression because he has gone so long without a goal.”

How did Sadio Mane play against Aston Villa?

Mane is not having the best of seasons, and there was already speculation before the match that the former Southampton star will be dropped.

That was the case, and although the Senegalese tried his best and went close to scoring on one occasion, he simply could not find the back of the net.

According to WhoScored, Mane took one shot which was on target, had a pass accuracy of 75%, and took 12 touches.

So far this season, the forward has scored seven goals and provided five assists in the Premier League, and has scored three goals and given one assist in the Champions League for the Merseyside club, according to WhoScored.
