Jamie Carragher has shared that he ‘loves watching’ Luke Ayling in action for Leeds United following their goalless draw against Crystal Palace on Monday night.

Even when both teams aren’t scoring, Leeds somehow still manage to make the game entertaining and like a Basketball affair.

That was the case at Selhurst Park yesterday, as the hosts will be wondering how they didn’t manage to get on the scoresheet.

One source of constant threat for Patrick Vieira’s side was Wilfried Zaha, who had a right ding-dong battle with Leeds’ all-action right-back.

The two were at each other’s throats all night and it was a battle that Carragher absolutely loved, as he told Monday Night Football on Sky Sports (25/04/22 at 10:25 pm).

“I love Luke Ayling,” said Carragher about the 30-year-old. “I love watching him. He’s there every game. Playing the same.

“Listen, sometimes Zaha went past him. But it was a really great battle. Toing and froing. But he just doesn’t stop Luke Ayling. It was a brilliant battle (with Zaha).

“I love players like that. It’s like ‘we are having a good battle’. Shake hands at the end of it. It was a great battle from the start and a few words in the corner flag in the first half, but Zaha is always going to give you problems.

“But Luke Ayling, since Leeds have come to the Premier League, I absolutely love him to bits.”

From Leeds’ perspective, that has to be seen as one point gained, rather than two points dropped.

They are now that bit further away from the drop zone, but still in trouble heading into the final few weeks of the season.

Five points separate Leeds and 18th-placed Everton, who have played a game less than the Yorkshire side.

As the Whites showed against Palace, one thing they are now starting to get right is securing those clean sheets, with Liam Cooper and Kalvin Phillips playing a huge part in that.
