Speaking on the Sky Sports Football Podcast, Jamie Carragher has been previewing Liverpool’s game against Manchester United this weekend, reserving special praise for Alisson Becker.
There is so much talk about the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Sadio Mane heading into this game, but Carragher was asked to speak about Alisson before the match.
Alisson put in a brilliant showing against Atletico Madrid earlier this week and Carragher believes the 49-time Brazil international is as good as anyone in world football.
What’s been said?
Carragher was speaking about Alisson and the notion that he’s something of an unsung hero.
“I mean, whether they’re unsung heroes for those outside of Liverpool, because they are always talking about van Dijk, Salah or Mane, but for Liverpool supporters, they’re not unsung heroes. The goalkeeper, he’s as good as anyone in world football,” Carragher said.

The best in the world?
Alisson is certainly up there with the best goalkeepers in the world, but is he the outright number one at this point?
Well, based on his last couple of performances, Alisson is certainly a contender, but the fact that he only has 49 Brazil caps shows just how close of a race it is between the Liverpool man and Manchester City’s Ederson.
The Premier League is blessed to have so many brilliant goalkeepers playing in the league right now and Alisson may well be the best of the bunch.
It will certainly be interesting to see who receives the Yashin Award this year, because Liverpool’s number one is certainly a contender.
