Everton are currently in seventh place in the Premier League table.
Jamie Carragher has told the Daily Mirror that Everton will struggle to break into the top four this season.
Everton have lost just one Premier League match in 2017, and they have forced their way into the battle for Europe.
The Toffees are currently in seventh spot, but they take on Liverpool and Manchester United in their next two matches.
If Everton can win them both, Ronald Koeman is reportedly confident of claiming a top four spot.
Everton are only six points behind the Champions League qualification spaces.
But Carragher feels that breaking into the top four may be too challenging for Koeman’s men this season.
“Getting into that top four, it’s so difficult,” Carragher said, when asked about Everton’s top four chances.
“Liverpool have been in once in seven years and they spend massive money, lots more than Everton.”
Everton go into the Merseyside derby on Saturday in better form than Liverpool.
The Toffees won 4-0 against Hull City in their most recent outing, while Liverpool drew 1-1 with Manchester City in their last match before the international break.
