Pundit Jamie Carragher has taken to Twitter to joke that he would love to become the next Everton manager after Ronald Koeman’s exit.

The Toffees parted ways with Dutchman Koeman last Monday, less than 24 hours after he saw his side lose 5-2 at home to Arsenal – and their instant fortunes since his exit have not improved.

After a 2-1 Carabao Cup defeat at Chelsea, Everton lost 2-0 at Leicester on Sunday, with caretaker boss David Unsworth unable to find a win in his first two games.

It remains to be seen whether Unsworth is in the running to land the job permanently, but a host of names have already been linked with replacing Koeman in the Everton dugout.

The likes of Sean Dyche, Sam Allardyce, Carlo Ancelotti and Thomas Tuchel have all been touted for the job, but Everton appear to be keen on taking their time to find the right man.

After speaking about Everton’s predicament on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, pundit Jamie Carragher was even asked on Twitter why he doesn’t apply for the job.

Carragher was a boyhood Everton fan despite his playing career with Liverpool, and having offered such strong opinions on the Toffees and their managerial situation, it was only a matter of time before somebody challenged him to apply for the job – much like when fellow pundit Gary Neville took charge of Valencia.

Carragher responded by joking that he would love the job, and attempted to suggest that fans don’t know that he hasn’t applied – but most supporters will believe that the notion of Carragher taking charge is completely far-fetched.
