Jamie Carragher has said on Sky Sports Premier League (7:35pm, November 7, 2021) that he does not think that Rangers manager Steven Gerrard will take charge of Aston Villa right now.
Carragher played with Gerrard for Liverpool and for the England national football team.
The Sky Sports pundit believes that Villa would be a tempting club for Gerrard.
However, Carragher does not think that the Englishman will leave Rangers right now.
The pundit has pointed out that Rangers are aiming to beat Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title for the second successive season.
Villa sacked Dean Smith as their manager earlier today.

According to The Telegraph, Rangers boss Gerrard is among the names the Premier League club are considering.
Carragher said on Sky Sports Premier League (7:35pm, November 7, 2021): “I think Aston Villa as a club would be a great move for Steven Gerrard, but the situation that he finds himself in right now is that he took the title off Celtic last season and he is in a great position to win it again.
“I think in a perfect world you would want to stay at Rangers until the end of the season and come away from there with two titles.”
Could Steven Gerrard to Aston Villa happen?
Rangers boss Gerrard was linked with the Newcastle managerial job just days ago.
The Liverpool legend responded by saying that he is happy at Rangers.
In our view, Gerrard will turn down Villa now.
Now, of course, anything is possible at the end of the season.
The Englishman could feel that he has done all he could do at Rangers.
A move to Villa could be very tempting in the summer of 2022.
But we do not think that Gerrard will quit Rangers during the season.
