Everton hammered Manchester City 4-0 at Goodison Park on Sunday.
Pundit Jamie Carragher has told Sky Sports that he was delighted for Everton midfielder Tom Davies after he scored a superb goal in Sunday’s 4-0 win over Manchester City.
The Toffees went into the game off the back of a patchy run of form, but produced a scintillating display to completely dismantle Pep Guardiola’s City side.
Teenage midfielder Tom Davies – handed a start with Idrissa Gueye at the Africa Cup of Nations – threaded a superb ball into Kevin Mirallas, and his pull back was dispatched by Romelu Lukaku for the opener, before Mirallas drove home a fine second after the break.

Davies then capped off a stunning performance with a goal of his own, executing a deft chip over Claudio Bravo to make it 3-0, before new signing Ademola Lookman rounded off a 4-0 win by nutmegging Bravo at his near post.
A number of players impressed for Ronald Koeman’s side, but the day belonged to midfielder Davies, who was making just his second Premier League start for Everton having come up through the ranks with the club.
The Liverpudlian midfielder was a constant menace in the middle of the park, but had great quality on the ball to pick out the pass for the opener, and then showed great confidence with his finish for his first Premier League goal.
Jamie Carragher
At just 18, Davies looks to have a huge future ahead of him, and after the final whistle on Sunday, pundit Jamie Carragher suggested to Sky Sports that Davies brought extra energy to midfield, and was delighted with his finish as he didn’t panic when through on goal.
Carragher also added that Koeman was brave to play Davies in such a big game, and even joked that the Everton boss may feel that he’s made a mistake by signing Morgan Schneiderlin for £24million from Manchester United (BBC Sport), because Davies was simply that good in the middle of the park against Manchester City.
“We spoke about him at Hull when he came on to replace Gareth Barry on that Friday night and he brought that extra energy into midfield,” said Carragher. “It was [brave]. Morgan Schneiderlin has come in as well but he now might be thinking he’s made a mistake seeing this performance.”
“I love the finish. How many players would just smash it late in a game and panic when the goalkeeper comes out. But to dink that ball and I’m delighted he’s got the goal.”
