Jamie Carragher has taken a sly dig at Manchester City after the Etihad Stadium side were charged by the Premier League this Monday for multiple breaches.
Taking to Twitter, the Liverpool legend and pundit sarcastically commented on how City were found guilty of breaching Premier League financial rules despite recently topping the Deloitte football money league after a record-breaking year of profit.

As per the Premier League’s bombshell statement this morning, City have been charged with over 100 financial breaches after a four-year investigation, with the Manchester giants set to face severe punishments that could range from a points deduction to even expulsion from the division.
Indeed, the charges City face are unprecedented and could have an unimaginable effect on English football. And for Carragher, the pundit’s reaction summed up how many felt about this shocking update, with many hopeful that the Manchester giants are rightfully punished.
With the charges stretching back as far as 2012, there is no telling how severe the fines could be on City in the coming months. Yet for many, the Premier League can make a serious statement with a points deduction or even expelling the Manchester giants from the division.
The Premier League must be stern with Manchester City after charges

City have been in a position before where they were found guilty of breaching financial rules only to get away with a slap of the wrist in 2020. Yet the Premier League can make a huge statement to the division and to some other big spenders, namely Chelsea, that these sort of moves will not be tolerated.
Money has taken over the Premier League for both the better and the worst, and if City are punished heavily, there’s every chance that it could make English football a more fairer space and a division where any club can dream of going all the way to the top.
