Aston Villa picked up an impressive point on Monday evening, drawing 1-1 with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Olivier Giroud put Chelsea in front, heading home Ben Chilwell’s cross from close range as he justified Frank Lampard’s decision to start him over Tammy Abraham.

However, Villa hit back in the second half, and claimed a share of the spoils when Anwar El Ghazi finished off Matty Cash’s cross.

Villa stood strong and got their point, with Dean Smith’s men continuing to impress in the Premier League this season.

Villa sit fifth in the Premier League table, just one point off the Champions League places and six behind Liverpool in top spot.

Having only achieved survival on the final day of last season, this is a great rise for Villa, and they will have hope of at least achieving a top half finish.

Jamie Carragher took to Twitter to react to last night’s draw, praising their ‘big turnaround’ whilst picking out five players for praise.

He hailed goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez as ‘very good’, whilst feeling that Douglas Luiz and John McGinn are a ‘great partnership’ in midfield with real threat up top in Jack Grealish behind Ollie Watkins.
