Jamie Carragher told CBS’s Champions League coverage (16/02/21 at 22:25 pm) that Alisson Becker’s performance during Liverpool’s 2-0 win against RB Leipzig was a much-needed confidence-booster for the shot-stopper.
The Brazil international went into Tuesday night’s game on the back of making mistakes against both Manchester City and Leicester.
But yesterday, Alisson put to bed any worries that he might be on a downward slope, as he put in a number of top-quality saves.
Carragher touched upon one key moment, just before the half-time break, when he rushed off his line to deny Christopher Nkunku from opening the scoring.
“This is a huge save (45th minute, off his line v Nkunku), this is at 0-0,” said Carragher. “Liverpool play that high line. And he is a great goalkeeper.
“But as Peter (Schmeichel) said even as the top goalkeepers, you need that for your confidence.
“Even though he is a great goalkeeper, one of the best in the world, everyone needs a confidence boost.”

It’s a timely performance from Alisson and Liverpool because their neighbours now await them at the weekend.
Seventh-placed Everton are one place below Liverpool in the table and are three points behind their rivals… but they have two games in hand.
One of those matches will be played tonight against Manchester City, as Carlo Ancelotti’s men have the chance to go above their rivals by the end of the week.
