The Liverpool icon has singled the 26-year-old out for praise.

Jamie Carragher was pleased with Liverpool after their 1-0 win over Premier League leaders Leicester City at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

And, on Twitter after the game, Carragher singled defender Dejan Lovren out for praise.

Lovren, of course, has shown glimpses of promise since moving to Anfield – but has largely disappointed.

As Opta stats show, this certainly was one of Lovren’s better displays in a Liverpool shirt and his solidity at the back helped Jurgen Klopp’s men earn a vital clean sheet against Premier League leaders Leicester City.

The Croat completed 57 passes – more than any of his team-mates, made 18 clearances and won five headers (although credit to Mamadou Sakho, who was equally impressive in this area).

The fact Carragher felt the need to single Lovren out, though, will no doubt provide a big boost for the Liverpool centre-back if he’s paying attention.

With every player that looks like an expensive flop, there is always slim hope that they’ll turn it around. Lovren has shown that he can under Klopp – it’s simply about keeping it up.
