Jamie Carragher has hilariously told Champions League on CBS that there is ‘no-one in TV who talks a better game than me’ as he reacted to potentially being called up by injury-hit Liverpool.
Whilst Jurgen Klopp’s side recorded a 2-0 win against Midtjylland last night, it came at a cost because stand-in centre-back Fabinho was forced off injured.
It now means that the Reds potentially have only one fit senior centre-half in Joe Gomez – Rhys Williams is still a youngster and there is uncertainty over Joel Matip.
Carragher was asked about potentially getting a call-up by the club and he issued this brilliant tongue-in-cheek response.
“Well, the way it’s looking, I mean it could be half a chance,” Carragher told CBS. “At this moment, there is no-one on TV who talks a better game than me.
On whether he’s made up with Klopp: “Well, he’s just on my right shoulder [as Carragher is stood on the sidelines of the Anfield pitch].
“I am just being careful. He is 6ft5, isn’t he? Have you seen the size of him? Why do you think I am still in the Kop? (Carragher was watching yesterday’s game sat in the Kop).”
The positive for Klopp is that Williams did very well when he was brought on for Fabinho and he will be hoping he has Matip available for West Ham.
If not, then it’s more worrying times for those on Merseyside because, whilst a lack of injuries have fallen in their favour in recent seasons, it seems as though it’s going in the other direction during this campaign.
It also needs to be remembered that since this injury to Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool are yet to concede a goal from open play.
