Pundit Jamie Carragher has hailed Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips for his performance against Everton on Saturday evening.

The Whites travelled to Goodison Park in search of all three points, having endured something of a frustrating night against Arsenal.

They were superb against Everton, dominating the game and having more than 20 shots on goal – and this time, they found the winner.

Raphinha fired home the winner with a fine left-footed drive, announcing himself as a new Premier League star in the process.

The Brazilian wasn’t Leeds’ star man though, as midfielder Phillips once again played a starring role in Leeds’ 1-0 victory.

Leeds missed Phillips massively when he was out with a shoulder injury, and two clean sheets upon his return – having conceded eight in two games before that – is no coincidence.

During the Sky Sports coverage of Saturday’s game, Carragher suggests on 91 minutes that Phillips was his man of the match having turned in an ‘outstanding’ performance.

Carragher added that Phillips had the freedom of Goodison Park because Everton couldn’t get to grips with him, hailing the England international for a complete display.

“Phillips, he’s been outstanding,” said Carragher. “You see his stats, he’s top of everything. It’s been a really big team performance, but I think he’s been outstanding. Everton never really got to grips with him from minute one really, he’s had the whole of Goodison Park to play in,” he added.
