Carragher predicted France to lift the trophy in a TikTok video for The Telegraph, outlining his expectations for their path through the tournament.

He also forecast Didier Deschamps’ side to top their group before facing Brazil in the quarter-finals, adding: “I just think their strength in depth and how many players they have in reserve as well, will be too much.”

His prediction ended with a final against Portugal, where he stated: “I just keep thinking of France. I just think the pace they have in that team as well will be really important and I think France will just pip Portugal.”

France could mirror historic Brazil achievement

France’s recent World Cup record places them among the strongest teams of the modern era.

They won the tournament in 2018 and finished as runners-up in 2022, maintaining consistency at the highest level.

That trajectory draws comparisons with Brazil’s run between 1994 and 2002, when they won two titles and reached another final.

A victory in the upcoming tournament would place France in a similar category, reflecting their sustained depth and quality during all those years.
